A Telus service interruption tonight means that areas like Keremeos and Lytton will not have access to 9-1-1.

Tonight, Aug. 13 from 10 p.m. to Aug. 14, at 6 a.m., Telus services will be unavailable in Keremeos, Boston Bar, Fraser Acres, Spuzzum, Yale, Lytton and Spences Bridge, according to a Tweet from the Thompson Nicola Regional District.

The outage impacts TV, internet, landline, wireless and 9-1-1 services, according to the district.

Outages can be monitored on the Telus service outage map.

Telus announced this afternoon that 2.5 kilometres of aerial fibre was damaged by the Keremeos Creek fire, southwest of Penticton, and will be replaced when technicians are allowed on site and Fortis poles are replaced.

Another aerial fibre was “severely damaged” by the Richter Mountain fire between Osoyoos and Keremeos.

“While still operational, there is significant risk this route could fail,” the release says.

“Similar to planned fire ignitions, Telus has assessed the risk and decided to repair this route while the affected area is in a controlled situation or risk having an uncontrolled outage should conditions shift.”

Repairs are expected to take a coupe of hours "if all goes as planned."

Telus could not be immediately reached for comment.
