8 new cases of COVID-19 in Interior Health region since Friday

Of the 269 new cases of COVID-19 across B.C., only eight were in the Interior Health region.

That raises the total number of cases in the health authority since the start of the pandemic to 425.

Twenty-one of those cases are active and in isolation, and nobody is in any of the Southern Interior hospitals for the disease, according to an Interior Health media release issued today, Aug. 24.

Kelowna's case count continues to grow with the cases linked to the city since June 26 rising to 170 from 166 over the weekend. Six of the cases are active and in isolation.

The outbreak at Okanagan Correctional Centre remains at seven cases and all are members of the staff. Four of the cases are active.

As of today, B.C. has 5,184 COVID-19 cases, 913 of which are active. There are also 18 people in hospital with the disease today, and five who are in critical care, Dr. Bonnie Henry said. Since the start of the pandemic 203 British Columbians have died of COVID-19.
