A snow covered icy road on a hill was behind a seven-vehicle chain reaction crash in Salmon Arm during the morning commute that sent one person to hospital.

RCMP said the slippery conditions, along with the speed of some of the vehicles, were factors in the crash today, Oct. 26, on 10 Avenue SE and 5 Avenue SE.

A driver was unable to stop in time and hit a stopped vehicle on 10 Avenue SE, according to an RCMP media release. Five more vehicles coming down the hill piled up, even some that were travelling slowly and had good winter tires.

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

RCMP said there were several fender benders and single vehicle crashes around Salmon Arm this morning.
