7 sunny summer days ahead in the Okanagan and Kamloops

Prepare to enjoy some outdoor summer activities in the coming days.

The Thompson Okanagan is about to experience the closest thing to a summer forecast this year, as the forecast for the next week calls for mostly sunny skies and consistent temperatures that should hit 30 C and higher.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lunquist says the end of the "rainy season" is more or less right on track as the weather pattern of unsettled conditions we’ve been experiencing since May changes to hotter and drier conditions.

“Our wet season this year started earlier in May, but it’s helped out the fire situation and we got what we asked for in that respect. It couldn’t have worked out better,” Lundquist says.

He says the next two weeks should see “very normal” conditions for this time of year, with temperatures at or above seasonal values.

This week, Kamloops could see a 40 per cent chance of showers accompanied by a thundershower tomorrow, and both the Thompson and Okanagan could see showers overnight Thursday, but other than that, it’s mostly sunny skies from today, July 15 through Tuesday next week.

Daytime highs should reach 30 C in Vernon and Kelowna today, 31 C in Kamloops and Penticton.

The rest of the week should see daytime highs range in the upper 20s C, with highs breaking the 30 C mark by next Monday.
