B.C. health officials announced 446 new COVID-19 cases today, including 10 epi-linked cases, raising the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic to 58,553.

There are 5,045 active cases of COVID-19 in the province and 368 individuals are hospitalized with COVID-19. Of hospitalizations, 72 are in intensive care.

"To date, 62,294 people have received a COVID-19 vaccine in British Columbia. Our focus is to ensure we safely deliver the vaccines as quickly as possible to B.C. communities, using all available supply," provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a joint statement issued today, Jan. 12.

There have been nine new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 1,019 deaths in B.C.

"Despite the challenges of COVID-19, there are many safe ways for us to stay active and stay connected. This is important for our physical and mental well-being," Dix and Dr. Henry said.

"Things are different than what they were before the pandemic. But we have learned, we have adapted, and by following the orders and rules for a bit longer, we will soon get to the brighter days ahead."
