Cases of COVID-19 continue to climb in the Interior Health region, albeit at a slower pace than much of the province.

Only six of the 136 cases recorded across B.C. since Friday were within the Interior Health Region, according to a Interior Health news release. That raises the total number of cases in the region to 405.

Hospitalizations are at two, though nobody with COVID-19 is in Interior Health's ICU department. There are 14 cases active and under isolation in the region and 164 cases are now linked to Kelowna since June 26.

The outbreak at the Okanagan Correctional Centre has grown by three, and a total of six positive COVID-19 cases, all staff, are reported at that location today.

"On behalf of Interior Health, I commend everyone living the region for their efforts in the fight against COVID-19," Susan Brown, president and CEO, Interior Health said in an emailed statement. "As we know, the maximum COVID-19 incubation period is 14 days and today marks a milestone following the BC Day long weekend. During the past two weeks we have seen low case counts, proving all of our hard work and dedication can make a difference. Now, as we approach the fall, I urge everyone to redouble their commitment to fighting this pandemic. We must all follow the public health direction offered by Dr. Bonnie Henry and stay familiar with ways to protect ourselves and loved ones from COVID-19."

Interior Health reminds people to stay home and avoid travel if they have symptoms, even mild ones. Maintain physical distancing (two metres apart) and use masks when distancing is not possible. Wash your hands regularly and do not touch your face. Do not plan or attend gatherings of more than 50 people. Limit gatherings to out of doors whenever possible.
