4 new cases of COVID-19 in Interior Health overnight

Kelowna was once highlighted as a COVID-19 hotspot but is quickly slowing down its rate of transmission.

Interior Health is reporting that today, Aug. 19, there were only four additional COVID-19 cases were reported overnight, raising the total numbers of cases in IH to 411 since the start of the pandemic.

Of all the cases, 19 are active and in isolation and no one is in the hospital.

The provincial uptick in cases coincided with parties on Canada Day weekend, largely in Kelowna. As the pandemic spread from that event, the health authorities started reporting how many cases were in Kelowna alone. Today there are 166 cases linked to Kelowna since June 26. Six are active and in isolation.

The outbreak at Okanagan Correctional Centre remains at six positive cases, all staff.

In the same time period, there were 64 cases added to B.C.'s COVID-19 count in the rest of the province. The provincewide total now sits at 4,745.
