Construction will begin on an affordable housing project at Tk'emlups te Secwepemc this fall.

A 30-unit apartment building and 28 townhomes are on slated to add housing stock for Tk'emlups families, elders, low-income members and individuals with disabilities, according to an announcement from Kukpi7 (Chief) Rosanne Casimir.

The B.C. Housing funded project is the second development announced this spring, with a 10-unit seniors development aimed to be completed by September. The seniors project is part of $10.8 million in federal funding to support housing projects in three Indigenous communities throughout the region.

According to the announcement, the two projects are the first additional members' housing on Tk'emlups land in 20 years.

Two and three bedroom townhouses will be built, and the 30 apartment units will be a mix between one and two bedroom suites.
