560 new B.C. COVID cases; 79 in Interior Health

The province is reporting 560 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, including 79 new cases in the Interior Health region.

Currently there are 4,913 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. with 382 people in hospital and 146 in intensive care, according to a Ministry of Health media release. The rest of those with the virus are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Five new deaths of been reported in B.C. with no new deaths in the Interior Health region.

The ministry said there were 208 new cases of COVID in the Fraser Health region, 80 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 131 in Northern Health, 61 in Island Health and one new case of a person who resides outside of Canada.

The vaccination rate for people 12 years old and older who have received their first jab is now 89.2%, while 83.5% have had their second dose.

From Oct. 11 to 17, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 67.1% of cases of COVID, and from Oct. 4 to 17 they accounted for 75.5% of hospitalizations.
