526 new COVID cases in Interior Health marks new record high

There were 526 new COVID-19 cases reported in the Interior Health region in the last 24 hours, breaking the previous record of 501 set on Dec. 30.

Cases in B.C. actually dropped from yesterday to 3,144, down from 3,223.

There were 1,416 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 483 in Vancouver Coastal, 475 on Vancouver Island and 244 in the Northern Health region, according to a news release from the Province of B.C. issued today, Jan. 7

There were nine more deaths, but none in the Interior Health region, bringing the provincial total to 2,439.

There are a record 33,184 active cases in B.C. with 349 people in hospital, 93 of whom are in intensive care.

The vaccination rate for those over the age of 12 with at least one dose remained at 92.1% and 89.4% of people over the age of 12 have two doses, a slight increase over yesterday. The percentage of people with booster shots climbed 1% to 23.5%.
