5 things to do in Kelowna this May long weekend

KELOWNA - It will be a fast and busy May long weekend in Kelowna. Be sure to be part of all the fun.

If you like fast cars and adrenaline, the 62nd Leavitt Machinery Knox Mountain Hill Climb, with iNFOnews.ca as a media sponsor, rolls out Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19.

Drivers from all over North America will vie for the best time making their way up the winding, 3.2 km paved hill. There are car shows, live music, food and racing all day, each day.

A new addition this year with the help of Leavitt Machinery, Audi and Porsche Kelowna dealers, as well as the support of SW Video and Audio, is the placement of cameras along the course with the feed directed to a large video screen where most fans congregate. Fans can also take in a live concert featuring the band The Insiders on Saturday night. Awards will be held in the park Sunday as well not the curling rink like years past.

Be sure to stop by the iNFOnews.ca tent for some fun games and a treat. iNFOnews.ca is a media sponsor for the climb.

All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to Motionball, a group benefiting the Special Olympic Foundation. This night of laughs will be hosted by Matt Baker, part of the winning Okanagan Team at the Outsiders Tournament at Just For Laughs Northwest and is preparing to go on a cross Canada tour this summer.

Get a history lesson this weekend

If you’re a history buff and want to learn some interesting facts about the early days in Kelowna, join local historian Bob Hayes and Kelowna Museums for a walk through Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery at 1991 Bernard Ave. Each tour will focus on a different area of the cemetery. Cost is $5 per person. For more information call Jen at 250-868-4836.
