While B.C.’s COVID-19 curve is bending in the right direction there are still hundreds of new cases detected every day.

In the last 24 hours, there were 465 more B.C. residents who tested positive, including 54 in the Interior Health region.

“Here in B.C., our curve is slowly moving downward,” stated a joint statement issued today, Feb 4, by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

They also warned against getting complacent.

“As we make plans for the weekend ahead, let’s ensure we don’t make the Super Bowl a super-spreading day, by making safe choices,” it read. “This is especially important given we are still learning about the full impact of the variants of concern now in our communities.”

Given the shortage of vaccines being shipped to Canada right now, only about 5,000 doses were injected in the last day with 3,000 of those being second does.

That brings the total doses administered to 145,567 with 8,097 of them being second doses.

Of the new cases, 234 were in the Fraser Health region, 98 in Vancouver Coastal, 27 on Vancouver Island and 52 n the Northern Health region.

There were six more deaths, bringing the provincial total to 1,240.

There are 4,447 active cases in B.C. with 257 people in hospital, 76 of whom are in intensive care.
