3 Okanagan cities are rising hotel destinations, says Google

In case you haven't heard, the Okanagan is a pretty hot travel destination.

And this year, as Canadians tried to figure out new ways to take minibreaks, Google got significant insights into what people are looking for. In its official Canada Blog Aug. 13, Google offered up travel-related search trends, and three Okanagan communities were among the top rising hotel destinations in Canada.

According to Google, the top rising hotel destination in Canada over the past two months was Kelowna. Next was Banff, Alta, then Jasper, Alta, Osoyoos, Penticton, Tofino, Mont-Albert Quebec, Canmore, Alta., Whistler and finally   Prince Edward County, Ont.

As COVID-19 restrictions started to loosen across the country, more Canadians searched for ways to get out and explore, according to the Google blog.

In addition to hotel destinations, Canadians searched for road trips and local travel, while globally, searches for "staycation '', '' beach rentals '' and '' cabins for rent '' have grown by over 100 per cent year over year, as many look for travel ideas closer to home.
