275 of 464 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. are in the Interior Health region

The torrid pace of COVID-19 infections in the Interior Health region continues to grow daily.

For the third day in a row, new record numbers have been set with 274 new cases in Interior Health region in the last 24 hours, according to a Government of B.C. news release today, Aug. 6.

That triggered new restrictions on public activities in the Central Okanagan, where the majority of the Interior Health cases are happening.

There were 464 new cases in B.C. with 72 in the Fraser Health region, 60 in Vancouver Coastal, 27 on Vancouver Island and 29 in the Northern Health region.

Interior Health also has the majority of active cases with 1,356 out of 2,411 for all of B.C.

There were no new deaths so the provincial total since the pandemic began is 1,772.

There are 52 people in hospital, 31 of whom are in Interior Health. There are 24 people in intensive care.

The vaccination rate for those over the age of 12 is at 81.8 per cent with 68.9 per cent having received a second dose.
