$25K needed to finish movie in Kamloops

Director of Outrunners Ken Hegan on set in downtown Kamloops. Hegan needs 25K to finish the movie.

The pandemic comedy thriller, Outrunners, filmed in Kamloops last year is approaching completion, and the creators are now adding the final music, audio and video effects.

Writer and director Ken Hegan is asking for donations from the public to help reach a goal of the $25,000 needed to wrap up the project, according the his recent media release.

Hegan created a crowdfunding pitch video for the cause and provides perks for donating, like T-shirts, fun-wear, spa robes, screenwriting and prop-making sessions, and road trips to craft brewery destinations, according to the release. He also wants to collect screams for the movie.

“I want to hear your screams in our movie,” said Hegan. “My fave perks: you can watch any movie you want at the Rio, plus I’ll record your scream to add to our film. So when Outrunners is released, you’ll hear your scream in the final film. It’s your scream come true!”

People can donate $20, $30, $50, $75 or more and local B.C. brands can even get a clever product placement by adding their brand’s 6-second ad to the film's climactic ending.

“If you love movies and supporting local art, help us finish this film! We’re raising money for music & VFX. Back us and get perks like spa robes or make a prop with me,” says Shawn Major, producer, and a veteran film/TV prop master & production designer.

The deadline to donate is Aug. 26.
