25 wildfires discovered after hundreds of lightning strikes across Kamloops Fire Centre

A wildfire was discovered near Gilser Brook, north of Naramata, on the afternoon of July 21, 2023. It is now classified as held. Human activity is the suspected cause.

People across the Kamloops Fire Centre are being asked to keep a watchful eye after 455 lightning strikes were reported over a 24 hour period.

B.C. Wildfire Service includes both the Okanagan and Thompson in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Following the 455 strikes across the region, 25 new fires were discovered between yesterday and this morning, according to fire information officer Taylor Shantz

She said 19 remain out of control, and that crews are continuing to monitor the region.

Wildfires can be reported thru the B.C. Wildfire app or by calling 1-800-663-5555.
