2,239 new B.C. COVID cases over weekend; 525 in Interior Health

There were 525 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the Interior Health region over the weekend, with a total of 2,239 cases in B.C.

There were 857 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 256 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 358 in Northern Health, 230 in Island Health and 13 people who reside outside of Canada, according to a Ministry of Health media release issued today, Sept. 27.

The ministry said over the past 72 hours, there were 18 new COVID-19 deaths raising the provincial death toll to 1,940. Three of the deaths were in the Interior Health region.

As of today, 87.7% (4,064,859) of eligible people 12 and older in the province have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 80.5% (3,729,606) have received their second dose, the ministry said.

There are 6,098 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 176,354 people who tested positive have recovered.

Of the active cases, 303 individuals are in hospital and 141 are in intensive care, the ministry said. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.
