2 killed in head-on crash on Trans-Canada near Sicamous

Two people are dead following a head-on collision on Highway 1 near Sicamous yesterday afternoon.

The collision seven kilometres east of Sicamous on the Trans-Canada Highway just after 1 p.m. yesterday, April 6, according to an RCMP media release.

A 73-year-old Sicamous man driving westbound in a pickup truck is believed to have crossed the centre line and collided with an eastbound sedan driven by a 46-year-old Salmon Arm woman, RCMP said. RCMP do not identify the people killed.

Both drivers were reported deceased upon the arrival of first responders.

There were no other passengers in either vehicle. Road and weather conditions are not considered factors in the collision.

Highway 1 remained closed for several hours as police completed their investigation.

Police are working in cooperation with the B.C. Coroners Service who are also conducting an investigation into the deaths, RCMP said.
