KELOWNA - A young girl has died at a local music festival this week.
RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are leading the investigation into the sudden death of a 16-year-old girl.
On Friday, July 27, at 9:12 p.m., Kelowna RCMP responded to a call at the 1600 block of Abbott Street at the Center of Gravity festival. A media release says they came to support the B.C. Ambulance Service responding to a medical emergency.
The girl from the Kamloops area was rushed to Kelowna General Hospital in medical distress, where she died. Police have notified the young woman’s family and the Kelowna RCMP Victim Services Team has been engaged in an effort to support them during their difficult time.
Although a full determination about criminality has not been made, police say, the investigation is continuing. RCMP do not believe that criminality was involved in the young woman’s death.
The Center of Gravity festival observed her death on social media yesterday.
— This story was updated at 11:26 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 to say the girl was 16 years old. RCMP incorrectly reported her age as 17.
