1,474 new COVID cases in B.C. breaks daily record, again

A record 1,474 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in B.C. today, breaking yesterday's record of 1,308.

There were 113 new cases in the Interior Health region in the last 24 hours, which is actually down from the 138 reported yesterday, according to a Ministry of Health news release issued today, Dec. 22.

Once again, the bulk of the new cases was in the Vancouver Coastal health region with 711, followed by Fraser Health with 435, Vancouver Island with 176 and there were 39 new cases in the Northern Health region.

The was no update today on how many cases of the Omicron variant have been found in B.C.

There were six more deaths in the last 24 hours but none in the Interior Health region. The provincial death toll is now 2,409.

There are 7,253 active cases in B.C. but the number of people in hospital with COVID actually dropped to 187 from 192 yesterday. There are 71 people in intensive care.

The vaccination rate for those 12 and over with at least one dose crept up to 91.8% while the rate for two doses stayed the same at 88.9%, as did the rate for those with three doses at 16%.
