With 119 more cases of COVID-19 detected in the past 24 hours there have now been 10,185 B.C. residents infected with the disease.

But there were no new deaths since yesterday, leaving the death total at 245, according to a joint statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and deputy health minister Stephen Brown issued today, Oct. 9.

"Let's do all we can to protect ourselves and our loved ones from COVID-19 by ensuring we always use our layers of protection this long weekend,” the statement reads.

"The care we show each other today will help protect all of us tomorrow, so let's make this Thanksgiving about safe connections and safe celebrations.”

Since the start of the pandemic in January there have been 5,253 cases in the Fraser Health region, 3,728 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 559 in the Interior Health region (two new ones today), 225 in the Vancouver Island Health region, 331 in the Northern Health region and 89 amongst foreign residents.

There are 69 people in hospital, 19 of whom are in intensive care, 1,406 active cases, 3,180 people being monitored and 8,502 who have recovered.
