It was a particularly unlucky Friday the 13th for more than a hundred Kelowna drivers.
“Our traffic enforcement officers were out on several busy streets in Kelowna throughout the day,” Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in a press release. “In particular, they spent time throughout the day in front of Raymer Elementary School.”
Over the course of the day 112 violation tickets were issued to drivers, including 85 for distracted driving, 11 for failure to wear a seatbelt and 16 for other violations. Distracted driving offences come with a $368 fine and four demerit points. Fail to wear a seat belt offences costs $167.
“The students of Raymer Elementary School posted a sign to remind drivers about the importance of remaining distraction free,” Sgt. Mark Booth of the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Section said in the release.
“We will continue to be out on the road looking for drivers failing to obey the rules.”
