That’s the worst death count in any single day in B.C. since last spring and brings the total number of B.C. residents to die from COVID to 1,888.

Over the last 24 hours, there were 768 new cases recorded in B.C., with the highest number, 239, in the Fraser Health region. There were 183 in the Interior Health region and 161 in the much less populous Northern Health region.

Vancouver Coastal had 83 new cases and there were 103 on Vancouver Island, according to a Ministry of Health news release issued today, Sept. 17.

There are 298 people in B.C. hospitals with 135 in intensive care out of 6,031 active cases, including 1,499 in the Interior Health region.

The vaccination rate is steadily climbing, reaching 86.5 per cent for those over the age of 12 who have received one dose, 78.9 per cent of whom have had two doses.
