The District of 100 Mile House is now on an evacuation alert due to a wildfire in the area and Interior Health is evacuating healthcare facilities.
According to a notice from the town issued today, July 14, the alert was issued within the municipal boundaries of 100 Mile and the Flat Lake Area expansion due to wildfire.
“Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions,” according to the town’s notice.
Interior Health is evacuating six residents from long-term care, two community care clients, and nine acute care patients to ensure the safe continuity of their care, the health authority said.
Interior Health said the 100 Mile District General Hospital is not being evacuated at this time, anyone requiring emergency care should proceed to this hospital as needed.
Due to the evacuation alerts in place throughout the region, the COVID-19 immunization clinic in 100 Mile House is cancelled and those with appointments will be contacted directly.
100 Mile House has a population of roughly 2,000 residents, according to Census data.
An evacuation order was also issued today by the Cariboo Regional District for 482 parcels in the Canim Lake South to Mahood Lake Area. This order covers 26,395 hectares, according to the regional district.

A wildfire located five kilometres east of Flat Lake is estimated to be 2,033 hectares in size, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.
"Due to immediate danger to life safety due to fire, the RCMP or other groups will be expediting (the evacuation)," according to the regional district. The evacuation route is from Mahood Lake Road West to Canim Lake South Road, West to Canim-Hendrix Lake Road, West to Highway 97, south to 100 Mile House.
Wildfires burning in the area also caused the closure of Highway 97 north of 70 Mile House, according to DriveBC.
