10 things to do this fall in Kamloops, Shuswap

KAMLOOPS - Fall officially begins this week — Saturday, Sept. 22 to be exact — and that means there are all kinds of activities in the Kamloops and Shuswap area that celebrate autumn.

Next weekend, Sept. 28 and 29, the fourth annual Brewloops block party will take place on the North Shore in Kamloops complete with food trucks, live music, a Ferris wheel ride and bumper cars to enjoy. Go here for more information.

Music in the Vineyard's Fall Harvest Celebration will take place on Sept. 30 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Privato Vineyard and Winery. Enjoy a live three-hour performance by Sirocco Project and remember to bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.

On Oct. 27, The Shores 2018 Fall Bazaar and Craft Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will take place at The Shores Retirement Residence at 870 Westminster Ave. The annual bake and craft sale features various vendors including CatsCrafty Corner, Avon, Tea Towels and Totes and much more. Hope on board the 2141 Steam Engine and enjoy a spooky The Ghost Train ride with the Kamloops Heritage Railway. The interactive theatre production gives passengers a special Halloween experience that includes performers in costume. For information on tickets go here.

Sunset Valley Farm is now open for pumpkin picking and Halloween-themed events including the Night of Fright! and the Haunted Agra Corn Maze. The farm is located on 3275 Tranquille Rd. past the Kamloops Airport. For information on hours and prices go here.

If you want more than just Halloween night to dress up in costume, head to the R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum in Salmon Arm on Oct. 20 and 21 for Spooktacular. The event is in its 22nd year and invites families for a fun but scary good time. Click here for ticket prices and more information.

The 16th annual Shuswap Wine Festival takes place on Oct. 20. The event is hosted by the Salmon Arm Rotary Club and runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The night includes samples of B.C. wines, beers and gourmet foods. Click here to purchase a ticket.

The Salmar Classic in Salmon Arm will be showing a Harry Potter movie once a week until Nov.1. The Harry Potter movie marathon began Sept. 9 and will reoccur weekly until the end of October. Moviegoers can enjoy the magic-themed movies in chronological order. For information on when each movie will play go here.

The Salute to the Sockeye Festival begins next week. From Sept. 28 to Oct. 21, the Adams River Salmon Society invites you to watch millions of salmon from the Pacific Ocean finish a 500-kilometre journey into the Adams River in the Shuswap. Go here for directions and more information.  

Oktoberfest at The Dunes will return for the Oct. 20 to 21 weekend from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The family-friendly event will feature local food vendors, drink and food specials, artisans and wine and beer vendors. For more information go here.
