10 things to do in the Okanagan and Kamloops this weekend

It’s the first weekend of the summer so there are events are aplenty in Kamloops and the Okanagan.

All weekend long – from June 23 to 25 – is the Pow Wow Between The Lakes at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton. Healing the Nation is the theme of this year’s Pow Wow, which begins at 7 p.m. tonight, June 23, with the first Grand Entry. Single-day tickets and weekend passes can be purchased through this link.

For anybody who likes dance music, Ben Fox is headlining a show at Status Nightclub in Vernon tonight. Theora and HouseWrecker are the supporting acts and Ora Laser is doing the light show. Tickets are $25 in advance through this link and the doors open at 8 p.m.

This year’s Penticton Elvis Festival takes place on June 25 and 26 in Penticton. It always draws some of the world’s best Elvis tribute artists to town. Saturday night is the headliner show and competitions are Sunday at the at the South Okanagan Events Centre, however both have already sold out. Other events are still open to the public, click here to see the weekend schedule.

This weekend is also the Beach City Cruise in Penticton. For the next three days, Lakeshore Drive will be packed with retro cars and vintage hotrods. It’s always free to attend. “Come and join us and a thousand or so of your closest friends at this year’s Peach City Beach Cruise,” Visit Penticton says.

For the cocktail lovers, tomorrow in Kelowna is the Craft Spirits Festival. Three events have been planned through the day and tickets for each can be purchased through spiritsfest.ca.

An afternoon of family fun has been planned in Vernon for Unplug and Play Park Day at Polson Park. There will be ice cream, mini putt and lawn bowling on June 24 from 10 a.m. until noon.

June 24 is also Sewing Day at the Kamloops Seniors Village. There will be 12 hours of sewing from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. “Please remember all of your quilting supplies, lunch and snacks if you wish,” the Sage Brush Quilt Guild said in the event description.

Anyone looking for a good stretch might enjoy Yoga in the Vineyard at The View Winery in Kelowna. It runs from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. and tickets cost $45 through this link. “This class is about relaxing and letting go,” according to the event description. We will end this class with a guided meditation to melt away any stress from the last few months”
