    WorkSafeBC has launched an awareness campaign targeted to home property owners who are considering or undertaking renovations or demolitions, regarding the dangers of asbestos in homes built before 1990.  The campaign runs until early 2017 across a broad spectrum of media including radio, television, print and social media.

    Safety Program Recognized
    On behalf of Council and the District of West Kelowna, Mayor Doug Findlater accepted two Certificates of Recognition from Worksafe BC and the BC Municipal Safety Association (BCMSA) after a comprehensive review of its Occupational Health and Safety Program and Return to Work/Stay at Work Program.
  • West Kelowna RCMP detachment wins silver

    The West Kelowna RCMP Detachment has earned a silver certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED®.

    Mayor Doug Findlater said the District of West Kelowna is proud of the recognition received from the Canada Green Building Council.

    “The RCMP detachment holds a special place for Council because it was the first building project we deliberated over and agreed to build,” said Findlater.

  • City of Vernon Recognizes Henk Bosman and Tanneke Oordt for Heritage Preservation

    The Urquhart house, built in 1912, is a one and one half storey Arts and Crafts bungalow located at 2501 23rd Avenue in Vernon.

    The Urquhart house is valued as an important example of the English Arts and Crafts bungalow style in a mature setting. The house comprises a central side-gabled front with two front-gabled ends. The house is richly decorated with the vernacular and indigenous materials favoured by the Arts and Crafts movement.
  • City of Vernon recognizes Vernon Community Music School for commitment to heritage preservation

    Mayor Rob Sawatzky said, “The Vernon Community Music School is in the process of completing building repairs and updating their foundation so they can provide a safe and viable musical home for generations to come.”

    In October 2012, the City presented Vernon Community Music School officials with a heritage plaque, in recognition of the heritage significance of the building.
