Event Description
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, join UBCO psychology faculty and graduate students for an illuminating evening that delves into the complex and urgent mental health issues facing our region. This dynamic panel event invites the community to explore the evolving landscape of mental wellness in Kelowna—from rising rates of youth anxiety and substance use to the challenges of eating disorders and the promise of neuropsychological assessments. You will hear from a diverse group of clinicians, researchers, and graduate students working on the front lines at UBCO’s Psychology Clinic. The evening will begin by examining the current state of mental health in the Okanagan—what issues are most pressing, who’s being affected, and how these challenges are changing over time. From there, the discussion will explore how UBCO is responding: the latest research findings, stories from clinical practice, and innovative treatments being implemented right here in our community. Finally, our panel will look toward the future. How can we build a more mentally healthy Kelowna? What role does science play in shaping more accessible, compassionate care? And how can individuals—parents, educators, caregivers, health professionals, and concerned citizens—contribute to a stronger, more resilient community? Whether you're passionate about mental health advocacy, curious about brain science, or simply want to better understand the challenges facing our neighbors and loved ones, this engaging, solutions-focused event will inform, inspire, and empower. Free admission, seats must be booked through the KCT box office.
