Event Description

We look forward to kicking off our 2021/2022 Calendar of regular monthly programs with this presentation by Cindy Ahern. Our hope was to begin this year with “in-person” programing at our new meeting location at the Upper Dublin Public Library. Unfortunately, the reemergence of COVID-19 protocols requires Wyncote Audubon to present the program via ZOOM. "The Hummingbird Gardener" is a lively and informative presentation accompanied by beautiful images and plenty of recommendations for plants and other features certain to attract hummingbirds. Cindy will also share tales of the successes, drawbacks, and surprises she encountered while transforming her small suburban yard to a bird habitat, which is recognized as an Audubon Pennsylvania Bird Habitat and Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation with a yard list of 135 bird species. Cindy Ahern is an adjunct instructor at Tyler School of Art - Division of Architecture and Environmental Design - Landscape Architecture and Horticulture programs at Temple University. Ahern is a naturalist who focuses on interrelationships between plants and animals in natural and manipulated environments. She creates landscapes featuring native plants with high nutritional value for pollinators and other wildlife. Her interests and research include quantifying Salvia nectar for hummingbirds, boreal plant communities, native plant communities and sustainable cultivation of food crops.
