Event Description

People always looked up in the sky wondering what is up there and dreamed about reaching there long before they learned how to do it. On October 4, 1957 the Humankind entered into the new era - practical exploration of space. The first artificial satellite of the Earth was launched into orbit in the USSR. This day also marked the beginning of the so called space race between the USA and the USSR. It led to many remarkable achievements, from the first man in space, to landing on the Moon and reaching the farthest planets of the solar system and beyond with robotic explorers.
