Event Description

Whether you are a poet, curious about poetry, or writing stories or songs, workshop participants will gain insight and understanding into what makes a poem have impact and sing. Through a close reading of various poems (ours and others), we will study elements of craft and technique in poetry. Participants will also practice integrating these poetic skills into their own poems, to strengthen their own writing. Over the course of six weeks we will explore: • where do poems come from? choosing our subject (or does it choose us)? • creating heat and intensity – through image, phrase and friction; • the potential and power of a single word, line or stanza; • using white space on the page to add layers and meaning; • the work of metaphors – “the elephant skin of a rock” • musicality of language & the power of our authentic voice. Session begin March 2, 2019 and continue each Saturday up to and including April 6, 2019. Sessions run 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. so bring a lunch if you like. Fee: $100.
