Event Description

Through Her Eyes: Works from Our Permanent Collection Guest Curator: Corinna Ghaznavi August 24 to November 17, 2019 **** *********** ***** CURATOR TALK & TOUR | 5 to 6 PM OPENING RECEPTION | 6 to 8 PM Friday, August 23, 2019 This event is open to members and guests by invitation. This is your invitation to attend. **** *********** ***** ABOUT THE EXHIBITION Through Her Eyes traces a long history of landscape, and how ‘landscape’ has evolved into painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, the analogue, and the digital. It highlights the particular vision that women artists bring to their environment, one that is filled with awe and appreciation as well as criticality, introspection, and reflection. The exhibition focuses on women artists in the Kelowna Art Gallery’s collection and includes works ranging from the 1930s to the present. Much of the work is smaller scale and on paper rather than monumental and on canvas. While there are works that present large impactful vistas, many show micro rather than macrocosms, zeroing in on singular plants, patterns in the landscape, close up or partial portraits, and abstract or emotive compositions. Taken together the exhibition examines the particular perspectives and sensibilities that women artists bring to landscape. Through Her Eyes: Works from Our Permanent Collection is guest curated by Corinna Ghaznavi, a freelance curator and writer based in Durham, Ontario. A 64 page, full colour catalogue will accompany the exhibition and will be available for purchase at the gallery reception. It includes a curatorial essay by Corinna Ghaznavi, reproductions of works included in the exhibition, and biographies of the included artists.
