Event Description
The Columbia Shuswap Invasive Species Society (CSISS) is inviting community members, environmental groups, and outdoor enthusiasts to roll up their sleeves and join a Yellow Flag Iris weed pull on Thursday, June 12, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Little White Lake.
Yellow Flag Iris (Iris pseudacorus) is an aggressive invasive plant that threatens the health of wetland ecosystems by outcompeting native vegetation and spreading rapidly through both seeds and underground rhizomes. Once established, it forms dense mats that are difficult to remove and harmful to wildlife habitat.
The June 12th weed pull offers a chance to take direct action against this invader through manual removal techniques including digging, cutting, and deadheading.
“This is a great opportunity for people to learn about invasive species while actively helping to protect a beautiful local wetland,” says Jess Booth, Communications and Engagement Manager with CSISS. “Whether you’re a seasoned environmental steward or just curious to get involved, all are welcome!”
Event Details:
- Massey Yard (Private Residence) –White Lake Road – address provided upon registration
