Event Description
The YMCA’s largest fundraising event of the year is coming back to Stuart Park in the heart of Downtown Kelowna on June 1. All funds raised will support low-income children and at-risk youth in our community.
"Our charity relies heavily on this fundraiser to ensure that YMCA Child and Youth Development programs remain free to our most vulnerable neighbours,” states Tammie Watson, YMCA of Southern Interior BC VP of Philanthropy. “By focusing on early intervention and preventive initiatives, the Y’s programs are effectively breaking cycles of despair and creating a stronger, healthier, and more resilient community."
Local philanthropist and mental health advocate, Tom Budd, is grateful to be a part of the event.
“The Y is making a massive impact in the lives of local children and youth,” says Tom Budd, local philanthropist and head of The Payton and Dillon Budd Memorial Fund. “As many know, empowering our youth and supporting their well-being, is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. Together, we can uplift future generations, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be healthy and strong.”
This year's YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids event promises to be better than ever, featuring four exciting themed outdoor cycle classes with both adult and junior bikes available so the whole family can get involved. The junior bikes will provide children with a unique opportunity to raise funds and awareness for their less fortunate peers — kids raising money for kids. Prizes will be awarded for top fundraisers and best spirit, enthusiasm, and creativity.
In addition to the heart-pumping outdoor cycle classes, this year’s event will boast an expanded Kids' and Family Zone sponsored by Unison Jane Hoffman Realty with bouncy castles, face painting, a photobooth, NHL street hockey, carnival-like games, and so much more — all by donation to the Y. As well, new this year is the Wellness Zone, put on by Kelowna High Performance, where people can explore various health and wellness activities. There will also be a Food and Beverage Zone, offering a variety of delicious food to keep everyone energized throughout the day.
With so much to see and do, YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids is set to be an amazing day for families and fitness enthusiasts alike. It is sure to be filled with impact, fun, energy, sweat, and camaraderie, helping to ignite the healthy and lifelong development of children and youth in our community!
You can register to ride, donate, volunteer, or come to enjoy all the fun on June 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit ymcasibc.ca/cycle today to learn more and get involved.
