Interest is picking up in at least one of the half-dozen wineries and vineyards currently for sale in the Okanagan.

That’s coming despite the fact that there is a small pool of buyers who are interested in a winery.

“This summer it’s picked up,” Jeffrey Sefton, a realtor with Faith Wilson/Christie's International Real Estate, told iNFOnews.ca. “And this fall, there has been a lot of interest from qualified potential buyers.”

Those potential buyers are both local, from other parts of B.C. and Canada but there is also keen interest from some international buyers.

“During the COVID period, when people weren’t travelling, that really cut off our European connection,” Sefton said. “People we had been in contact with prior to COVID, or just around that time, they weren’t coming here. A lot of people put things on hold that were coming internationally. It’s opened up again so that interest is there again.”

For more than a year he's had the listing for Seven Stones winery west of Osoyoos. He expects it to sell by the end of the year.

Originally listed at $8.7 million, the price has now dropped to $6.9 million. There is interest in the fact that it not only has a good location on the highway, a house, tasting room and caves, but also has a helipad.

While Sefton can’t speak to why all the winery owners are selling right now, he’s talking to a number of people who have been in the industry for years, worked hard and are looking to retire.

Another of the properties on the market is 116 acres of vineyards only. It is part of the Covert Farms Family Estate north of Oliver and is on sale for $24.5 million. It’s listed by the Chamberlain Property Group.

It has a 6,703-square-foot custom built home with five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms along with 6.5 acres of grapes.

“This private lakeview property is located on the lush, gentle slopes of the Naramata Bench,” the listing reads. “The perfect home for a social lifestyle.”

It also has gates so “total privacy is maintained within proximity of the city.”

It has four guest accommodations with ensuites, a wine cellar, tasting room and an infinity pool with wet bar.

Further down the price scale is the $5.5 million Eagle Nest Vineyard at 4393 Black Sage Rd. in Oliver.

It’s also listed by Sotheby’s with 14 acres of grapes that produce “award-winning red wine for Desert Hill Winery,” the listing says.

It has a “basic” two-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1,150 square foot house, according to B.C. Assessment.
