At least three joints are hosting cannabis-laced comedy in Kamloops and Kelowna
For anybody who enjoys indulging in comedy and cannabis at the same time, some funny events have been planned to celebrate 4-20 in Kamloops and the Okanagan.
In Kelowna tomorrow, April 16, Comedy Kelowna will be hosting Comic Go Green at Dakotas Pub.
Eight comics will each do one set of jokes while sober, and then go off the property to smoke a bunch of weed, and then return to deliver another set while stoned.
“It’s interesting because it affects everybody in a different way,” said Dave Kopp, founder of Kelowna Comedy.
“Some comics smoke weed every day so it may not make that big of a difference. But it’s really fun to see the comics who are straight edge kind of people most of the time – people can be totally chill or completely out of their mind.”

Ever since marijuana became legal in Canada in 2018, jokes about it have had to evolve, Kopp said.
“Joking about taking weed gummies isn’t exactly cutting edge stuff anymore. Comedians got to get more creative now… people in the audience aren't shocked to hear about smoking weed anymore.”
The Comic Go Green event will be hosted by Patrick McCann.
“If you met Patrick on the street it’s like what a nerd, but he’s about as cool of a guy as you could ever meet,” Kopp said.
Tickets are $15 at the door, show starts at 8:30 p.m.

More stoner comedy happening in Kelowna is planned on the actual day of 4-20 — April 20 — when the Silly Sally Comedy Show takes place at BNA Brewing Co. There will be comics from the Okanagan and beyond and the host will be Kate Belton. The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased through this link.
In Kamloops on April 20, there will be the Comedy Open Mic 4-20 Show at the Effie. It starts at 8 p.m. and will be hosted by improv comedy troupe the Freudian Slips.
“This open mic is guaranteed to be a smoking show under the influence of the Slips,” reads the event description.
And in Penticton on April 20, pot shop Unity Penticton is hosting a parking lot barbecue party between 3 and 7 p.m. There is swag to be given away. Food is by donation and proceeds will support the people of Ukraine.
