A popular German restaurant on Peachland’s waterfront is reopening for medieval dining after months of repairs following a burst pipe and the resulting damage.

Gasthaus on the Lake is having a soft launch from Wednesday, Sept. 28, to Saturday, Oct. 1. The restaurant will be open for dinner service only from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is only accepting a limited number of online reservations. Groups are limited to eight persons.

“As this may seem very restrictive, we are in the unfortunate situation of just not having a large enough team to accommodate everyone at this time,” reads the post on Gasthaus on the Lake website.

“The hope for the near future is that we will be able to return to regular business practices soon. We have missed you all and looking forward to seeing everyone again.”

Gasthaus on the Lake originally closed after a sprinkler pipe burst and flooded the restaurant almost ten months ago. Its reopening was further delayed by the discovery of asbestos in the building.

The medieval dining room was started by the original proprietors Werner Fischer and Joerg Hoerath in 1991.

They were later joined by Devin Smith in 1994 and the three collaborated on the expansion of the pub and garden in 2000. Fischer died of cancer in 2018.
