iN VIDEO: Peachland's Gasthaus restaurant finally reopening
A beloved German restaurant in Peachland is ready to reopen after nine months.
Gasthaus on the Lake originally closed after a sprinkler pipe burst and flooded the restaurant. Its reopening was further delayed by the discovery of asbestos in the building. Now, according to the restaurant's website, it will finally reopen this Thursday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m.

“It has been a long process in getting our restaurant to open its doors once again. We have met some very challenging situations over the last nine months. Now, our current issue is finding staff who want to be a part of our team. I am confident that once word spreads of our imminent opening that we will get back to full strength. If you know of anyone who is looking for either a full or part time job, please send them our way,” according to a statement posted to the website.
The restaurant will operate on a reservation-only basis in the meantime and will feature a new Bavarian-style menu.
The medieval dining room was started by the original proprietors Werner Fischer and Joerg Hoerath in 1991. They were later joined by Devin Smith in 1994 and the three collaborated on the expansion of the pub and garden in 2000, according to its website. Fischer died of cancer in 2018.
