Months after devastating flood, Peachland's Gasthaus on the Lake set to reopen
A popular German-themed destination restaurant on Okanagan Lake plans to reopen by this summer.
Gasthaus on the Lake in Peachland was forced to close its doors last winter after a sprinkler pipe burst and flooded the Beach Avenue restaurant.
Peachland Mayor Cindy Fortin shared photos and an update to social media today, May 11, from a tour she took of the restaurant.
She reports the building was contaminated by asbestos that spread as a result of the broken pipe, and only passed its final air quality test on April 26 after “a long tedious process.”
Crews are now able to work on restoring the inside of the restaurant to its former glory, she said.
“For the most part, they were able to rescue most of the antiques and other indoor items, many of which have been carefully packaged up, and a true inventory of what will make its way back on display won't be known until they begin sorting through those boxes," she said in the social media post.
General manager Andrew Neville is hoping to reopen by late June or July, Fortin said.
