Thanks to Summerhill Pyramid Winery in Kelowna, there’s a Canadian flag in the top 10 list of best Muscats du Monde of 2021.

The 2020 Estate Grown Biodynamic Muscat from Summerhill won a gold medal to earn a spot on the top 10.

“Please help us congratulate Summerhill winemaker Michael Alexander, vineyard manager Jesse Brooks and all of our team for this outstanding achievement,” a post to the winery's Facebook page reads.

Wineries from 19 different countries competed. Also in the top 10 were three wineries from France, including the first place finisher, as well as four from Portugal, one from Spain and one from Australia.

“Gold medals were awarded to dry wines, which were characterized by an elegant acid balance and by floral, muscat aromas,” reads a press release from Muscats du Monde.

The wine is sold out at Summerhill but there are still bottles available at some wine retailers in the province.

“The good news is that we are days away from harvesting the 2021 vintage from the same vineyard, and the grapes are tasting divine,” Summerhill said.
