Kamloops' Monte Creek Ranch wins nine medals in national competition

A Kamloops winery raked in accolades at this year's All Canadian Wine Championships with nine wines scoring medals.

Monte Creek Ranch, located 33 kms from Kamloops, won gold for its 2018 Reserve Chardonnay, 2018 Varietal Series Chardonnay, 2018 Varietal Series Riesling, 2019 Hands Up White and 2017 Hands Up Red.

They brought home silver medals for their Fruit Sparkling "Split Decision," 2017 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and 2017 Varietal Series Cabernet Merlot.

The winery also won Best White Wine of the Year for their 2018 Thompson Valley Reserve Riesling.

“The 2018 Thompson Valley Reserve Riesling is crafted from fruit grown on our two vineyards here in the South Thompson valley," Winemaker Galen Barnhardt said in a release.

"Riesling is well adapted to our hot summers and cold winters here in the South Thompson, and we feel the future is bright for this variety in our region.”

The competition included 805 wines from 130 wineries throughout Canada, including British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Alberta and Saskatchewan. The judges panel comprised of wine industry professionals including sommeliers, wine educators, bloggers, and members of the media.

“I couldn’t be more of proud of our winemaking and viticulture teams," Erik Fisher, General Manager of Monte Creek Ranch said.

"It takes a tremendous amount of focus and precision to make great wines. I see the dedication on a daily basis but this recognition is a testament to the skill and hard work that goes into making a wine this special.”

Wines are available at the winery, on the Monte Creek Ranch website, and in some retail locations. Monte Creek Ranch is open for tastings daily 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the end of September.
