Jennifer Schell's new cookbook wins best in Canada for food and wine
A Kelowna author will be featured on a global stage after winning a national award for her latest cookbook.
iNwine host, and author of the B.C. Wine Lover's Cookbook, Jennifer Schell has earned the top spot for Canada in the Winter Harvest Drink Culture 2020 list in the Food and Wine category, which means she has also been nominated for the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards Best in the World competition of 2021.
"I am absolutely thrilled. Nothing makes me happier than seeing our beautiful B.C. and extraordinary wine world on the world stage," she said.
There are 1,288 entries from 175 countries and regions which have been nominated for the Gourmand Awards, with the Best in the World announced in Paris, June 3 to 6, according to a press release issued by the Gourmand Awards.
There are roughly 20% more entries for this season as cookbook activity has been "intense in 2020, a consequence of the pandemic and confinement. There is much digital publishing, but print is also increasing," the press release reads.
The Gourmand Awards were founded in 1995 and each year they honour the best food and wine books and food television, according to the Gourmand website. The awards have been compared to the Oscars for film and are inspired by the Olympic Games and their spirit.
