A new Pita Pit is in the works on Kamloops's North Shore with plans to open in two weeks.

It will be attached to the Canco gas station at 228 Tranquille Road that has a large lot and is close to other businesses and residential areas.

“The food on the menu is really healthy and good,” said owner Vikram Singh. “I first tried it in Kelowna. People are really excited about this.”

Pita Pit is a Canadian franchise with two outlets in Kelowna and one other in Kamloops. It boasts healthy menu options, signature pita wraps and customized pitas. Singh is proud to bring the pita outlet to his customers, after overcoming a few setbacks to get the project going.

“We were supposed to open two months ago,” Singh said. “Like everyone else we have been struggling to find staff and were set back in getting building materials because of broken supply routes due to the flooding.”

Construction of the Pita Pit is in full swing and staff are ready. As long as inspections and everything continues to go well, the doors will open mid-February, something Singh said many in the community are enthusiastic about.

“I was talking to the Westsyde Canco and they are crazy busy,” Singh said. “Some customers complain they have to travel too far to get there so it is a good idea to open up on this side of town. It looks like most people are looking for more healthy options that are delicious too.”

The signature pitas are Smoky BBQ Beef Brisket, Twisted Spicy Chicken, The Spicy Greek and The Western.

“Some ingredients are sent to us by the company,” Singh said. “But for many ingredients, like the vegetables, we will be able to source from local suppliers."

Singh and his team are known in the community for their carwash fundraisers they host several times per year to raise money for different local charitable organizations.

With a background in business and retail, Singh has been running the North Shore business for six years.

He said once the Pita Pit opens, he and his team will set up a special celebration event and make the announcement to the community.
