A Kamloops McDonald's was the scene of a brawl between several people last Wednesday, and now the restaurant is beefing up their security system.

Police were called on Aug. 24 to the North Hills McDonald's on Fortune Drive after a restaurant manager tried to disperse a group of people.

Restaurant management at the location on Aug. 29 did not say why the employee tried to disperse the group, but did say police responded after the unwanted patrons behaved aggressively.

Despite numerous reports on social media that a restaurant manager was injured in the incident, the owner of the restaurant, Brandy Gozda-Sekhon said that didn't happen.

Asked for more details on what happened at the restaurant, Gozda-Sekhon had "no comment at all."

A security company was wiring new surveillance at the restaurant on Monday afternoon, Aug. 29. A restaurant manager, who did not give his name, said the McDonald's location was already planning to improve its surveillance, but the Wednesday incident might have added urgency to the project.

Signs on the door indicated the fast food restaurant is closing its indoor seating from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. "for this week only." It's unclear exactly when indoor seating overnight will resume. Customers will be restricted to drive-thru service only for the safety and security of the employees, according to the sign.

It adds that indoor seating may be closed outside of those hours based on the manager's discretion.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn confirmed police were called and are investigating an assault, but could not immediately provide more details.
