A new eclectic Indian restaurant in Kamloops is putting a creative, immersive twist on the traditional dining experience.

Jadoo Eclectic Indian Cuisine and Craft Cocktails is fusing tasty takes on traditional Indian street food with traditional, cultural stories.

“We had the best dining experience we’ve had in Kamloops and have been craving a place like this,” said local foodie Brooke Hermiston. “It so unique, you won’t get anything like this anywhere else in Kamloops.”

Jadoo means magic in Hindi, and magic is an underlying theme of the lounge.

Every menu item and every craft cocktail comes with a story. For example, if you order the Nachos Papdi Chaat, you can read the story beneath it on the menu: “In the 17th century, Emperor Shah Jahan’s Hakim (physician) asked him to consume food that was light on the stomach but high on spices to help build his immunity. Chaat means to lick, and legend has it the emperor enjoyed the fragrant dish so much he licked his fingers in delight.

“Papdi Chaat is the most common chaat found on the streets of India. We serve this savoury fried snack with Jadoo’s homemade guacamole and salsa, mint-cilantro chutney, melted cheese and sev.”

Hermiston said the flavours of the food were “incredible”, the plate presentation was “beautiful,” and the staff was knowledgeable.

“We had pappadoms to start, then shared the galouti kebab and chicken cafreal,” she said. “The manager has worked with Michelin star chefs and is also a sommelier. He explained their choices for certain ingredients and why they were healthier.

“You can tell he put an insane amount of effort and passion into this place.”
