A man from the Lower Mainland is dead after two commercial trucks collided along the Trans-Canada Highway near Spence's Bridge yesterday.

One of the trailers appeared to be engulfed in flames following the collision while a truck came to a stop at the CN track down the steep embankment, according to a BC Highway Patrol news release.

Emergency crews were called to the scene just north of Spences Bridge around 6:50 a.m., Oct. 5.

The highway and railway were closed for hours as the crash scene was investigated, but have since reopened.

One driver was uninjured in the collision and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police.

The two trucks collided head-on while negotiating a curve, but police say they are still investigating the cause of the crash.

"All avenues are being considered, however, impairment by drugs or alcohol have been ruled out as a factor in the crash," the RCMP news release reads.

The driver of the southbound truck survived, and that truck was still along the highway after the collision.

Hours after the collision, police said the driver of the northbound truck was still unaccounted for.

Police haven't said where or when he was found, but he was deceased at the scene once he was located.
