Movie production company looking for homes in Kamloops and area
An exciting opportunity is on the table for residents in the Kamloops area who want to showcase their homes and properties as the film commission is looking for three unique settings for an upcoming film shoot.
What's required is an old-fashioned house, a modern bungalow and an eclectic home of a collector, preferably in Kamloops, Ashcroft or Cache Creek.
“This production is very interested in coming to our area at this time and they need a few places to fulfill their script so they asked us to do a call out,” said regional district film commissioner Terri Hadwin.
Cloudy Picture Inc. is shooting the film called Lunar Sway in September, which is about a young man living in a small desert town who reunites unexpectedly with this estranged birth mother, and while the production company hasn’t signed the dotted line to film in the region yet, having the settings available will increase the odds they will.
“The producer is just looking into the area but having all the settings right where they need it will definitely help,” Hadwin said. “We’ll show them various film-friendly locations and support them in finding new ones. We work to support productions making the decision to film in the Thompson-Nicola region for their next projects.”
The first location required is a family house with a living room, dining room, kitchen and bathrooms. Old fashioned wood panelling and/or patterned wallpaper is preferred, as well as brown, beige, green and yellow colour schemes. Also preferred is old fashioned furniture and no white walls.
The second location should be a tidy, single person’s bungalow-style home that isn’t too modern but is up to date. There needs to be a living room and a bedroom and no white walls.
The third location would be the home of an eclectic collector with a long hallway and dark walls. A library and an office room are preferred.

If someone has an interest in boosting their home, business, ranch or property by showcasing it in a film production they can be added to a database with the commission for future film productions.
“There's an online application and we’ll send a scout photographer to the property to take photos of what it looks like from a filming point of view,” she said. “We can present those to a filming production, who may then line up with the homeowner to see if it will work.”
Homeowners could be out of their house for the production for several days, it all depends on how much of the script takes place at the location, and will get a financial offer from the production company for the inconvenience.
“You can’t predict what script will come knocking so having a lot of inventory is really helpful to us.”

The Thompson-Nicola region is a prime area for film making with a diverse range of natural backdrops including badlands, grasslands, ranches forests and snow-capped mountains, along with urban spaces.
Hadwin said it is becoming a more popular place for film productions.
Most recently, the drama action series Tracker, starring Justin Hartley, filmed the opening scenes of its first episode at a location between Walhachin and Cache Creek. This is the second recent major motion picture filmed in the region, the first one being Monarch: Legacy of Monsters starring Kurt Russell, which premiered in November 2023.
