Kelowna contractor fined $44K after flaggers too close to traffic
A Kelowna contractor has been fined $44,000 after flaggers got too close to vehicles.
According to a recently published Nov. 28 WorkSafeBC penalty notice, Bluepoint Construction received the fine after inspectors turned up while a road was being repaved.
"WorkSafeBC inspected the site and observed multiple deficiencies in their traffic control system, including two traffic control persons in close proximity to moving traffic," the penalty notice reads. "The firm failed to ensure the health and safety of all workers at the worksite and failed to use control measures that would limit worker exposure to traffic."
WorkSafeBC said this was a repeated infraction and handed the companies a $43,615 fine.

The penal notice also says the company failed to ensure traffic control devices were installed and positioned effectively.
WorkSafeBC says the issues observed at the site were all high-risk violations.
No other details are given on the penalty notice.
CORRECTION: This story was updated at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, after WorkSafeBC confirmed it had made an error and Valley Traffic Systems and Gotraffic Management had not been issued a fine.
