Traffic cops caught 48 drivers speeding in Kelowna school zones in one day
Kelowna RCMP went on an enforcement campaign earlier this week and handed out dozens of tickets for speeding in school zones.
The enforcement blitz was a part of Canada Road Safety Week during which traffic cops went to school zones to give out tickets on May 12, according to an RCMP media release.
RCMP didn't say which schools were part of the campaign.
Officers gave out 48 tickets for speeding in a school zone, including one to a driver who was caught going 67 mph, RCMP said. That's almost 108 km/h in a 30 km/h zone.
A prohibited driver was arrested for being behind the wheel. Fifteen tickets were handed out for distracted driving, one for failure to wear a seatbelt and another for having tinted front side windows.
RCMP said there were three Motor Vehicle Act offences and nine drivers got verbal warnings.

“We are listening to the concerns of the public and are committed to targeting high-risk areas — particularly school zones — to ensure the safety of our community,” Municipal Traffic Unit Sgt. Kyle Ushock said in the release.
