iN NUMBERS: Beer, wine and spirits in Kamloops, Okanagan

Everyone loves to go on about how great the wine is in the Okanagan, but good ol’ beer and liquor is too often overlooked.

Here are some numbers for wine, beer and spirits in Kamloops and the Okanagan:

  • 8,830: Acres of vineyards in the Okanagan.
  • 40: Wineries in the Kelowna area, at least.
  • 16 Craft breweries in Kelowna.
  • 75: Different types of grapes grown at wineries in the South Okanagan.
  • 80: Wineries within a 20 minute drive of Penticton.
  • 19: Licensed breweries in Kelowna, according to the provincial government. This doesn’t include your uncle’s sketchy basement brewed beer.
  • 3: Licensed breweries in Vernon.
  • 1: Distillery in Vernon, Okanagan Spirits Inc.
  • 379: Dollars per person for one of the most expensive wine tours you can find online in Kelowna.
  • 4: Licensed wineries in Kamloops.
  • 4: Distilleries in Kamloops, but Kelowna has 5. To quote Wolf of Wall Street, “Gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers in this racket.”
  • 2: Well-named beer festivals in Kamloops this summer, Brewloops and Bike and Brew Fest.
